Longtime Tunnel Rats producer rocked us with his first album THE FLEDGLING. He returns on ILLECT RECORDS with a second offering titled THE SHORT LIST. Okay Player says:
“The Short List is subtitled “A Beat Tape,” but that’s a little misleading. Not so much a collection of loops for you to practice your rhymes over, this stands up on its own as an artistic instrumental hip-hop album. The concept, according to the liner notes, is hung upon the “small group of women who have impacted [Dert’s] life…,” and indeed the music melts well with this idea; romantic-sounding guitars, funky harps, and reverberated snatches of female laughter all contribute to the feeling of memory, and once this conceptual seed is planted the varying moods presented in each track are easily connected to images of the various women and situations one encounters in life. By tapping into the listener’s own memories and imagination, the concept succeeds in drawing attention to the music, which does not disappoint.”
